Changes at the Bell
There have been changes at The Bell Inn,where the cast of Dad?s Army stayed during the filming. All the public areas have been refurbished, the photographs of the cast moved from their single location to all along the main corridor, and some of the public rooms have been renamed.

More visitors
We were pleased to welcome some more visitors to the museum on Saturday,53 members of the Norfolk Goldwings Club rode over from their ?Wing Ding? event at Banham to visit our museum and the Charles Burrell Museum. They also enjoyed a short walk around some of the Thetford locations and a cream tea at The Bell.

We warned you
In an earlier post we warned you to be careful as several rather nasty criminals were out on the loose in Theford. On August 11th several normally respectable local citizens were arrested and taken away for trial at the Guildhall.Included amongst those arrested were our own Captain Mainwaring (Mick Whitman) for embezzlement (what would Wilson say). Other leading citizens under arrest included Oliver Bone (curator of the Ancient House Museum of Thetford Life) for stealing a bushel of wheat,Corinne Bindle for stealing a sheep,Canon Bob Baker for drunkenness,Dot Haggardy for impersonating the queen, and David Turner for speeding in a hearse. It was all in aid of a good cause,St Nicholas Hospice. We hope that they raised a great deal of money.

Treasure Quest
If you live in Norfolk you may have heard of a radio show broadcast on Sunday mornings called Treasure Quest,it is a show where a listener directs a treasure hunter (radio presenter) around the area looking for a treasure. At various locations clues are given, which have to solved by the listener to enable the treasure hunter to find the next location (and clue) and finally to the treasure.Thetford was one of the chosen locations on Sunday August 15th and the clue was broadcast from the statue site by Sophie Price from Radio Norfolk. For more information on the show look at the Facebook page.

Press release ?Captain Mainwaring Statue
The museum has today released the following statement. PRESS RELEASE The recent damage to the Captain Mainwaring statue in Thetford has been disappointing but nothing will deter the spirit of the Friends of Dad?s Army Museum that worked so hard and raised such a lot of money to have the statue for us in the first place. The truly sad part is that the sustained attack was committed in broad daylight and yet no passer by saw fit to tell anyone. What is it about our society these days that makes us so completely unwilling to get involved ? even anonymously? The really positive news is that the culprit was caught and dealt with swiftly and the message is clear that if you wish to vandalise our statue ? you are being watched and you will be caught. Thanks to great police work and the new camera system at Breckland the Captain can rest assured that a whole new platoon are keeping a constant vigil to ensure his safety! The Captain?s replacement glasses will be fitted this week. If you would like to help the Friends please contact Corinne Fulford on 07802 701911 or visit www.dadsarmythetford.org.uk The BBC news story can be seen at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-10689028
